I bought a few of these affordable liquid lipsticks on Amazon recently after becoming intrigued by some swatch videos. I’m always interested in trying cheap products like this because when they’re good it’s made even better by the fact that I didn’t pay much for them. These products aren’t new on the market, but they’re new to me so I thought I’d review them (that’s what I’m here for).
This is what L.A.Girl says about These lipsticks:
Provides rich, intense colour in a flat finish for all day wear. The long wearing formula goes on as a high pigmented liquid and dries to a flat matte finish. Leaving lips coloured in gorgeous velvety perfection that last and lasts.
I bought the shades Fleur, Rebel and Secret. Fleur is a nice peachy nude colour, Rebel is a very wearble berry/mauve sort of shade and Secret is a deep red.
Here are some swatches:
They apply like a lip cream or a gloss and dry to a matte finish with pretty good pigmentation. However, on application they’re a little hit-and-miss. You have to apply it evenly or it will look a bit patchy (particularly Fleur, probably because it’s a paler colour), and you have to be quite quick with it because it dries pretty fast. I like the applicator itself though, it’s a good size and very flat.
When it’s dry on your lips it stays very slightly tacky when you press your lips together, which doesn’t bother me particularly but may do for some people. I’d recommend that after you apply it you don’t press your lips together until it’s completely dry, and if the stickiness bothers you then paint a coat of Lipcote over the top; it’ll make the colour last even longer too!
In terms of wear, these are decent considering what I paid for them (less than £4 each on Amazon). They are not food and drink proof, but they are reasonably kiss proof. I wore Rebel to work recently and I didn’t have to reapply until after I’d eaten lunch – about 5 hours of wear. I did find that my lips had become quite dry by that point, but I didn’t apply any lip balm to my lips before I applied the lipstick in the first place, so that may be my fault. My lips dry up without lip balm regardless of whether I’m wearing lipstick or not.
Inevitable dryness aside, these are actually pretty comfortable to wear for most of the day, and there’s a good choice of very bright and bold colours (16 to be precise). Honestly not bad for a liquid lipstick under £5.
